Man who fired BB gun at apartment complex nightly says he wanted to watch glow-in-the-dark pellets fly

A man in his 40s who repeatedly fired BB gun pellets at a nearby apartment complex has been arrested roughly a year and a half after the first complaint was filed.

The Gwanak Police Station in Seoul booked the man, identified only as A, on charges of aggravated assault, YTN reported Wednesday.

A, who lives in an officetel in Sillim-dong, Seoul, is accused of firing a BB gun multiple times at an apartment complex about 30 meters away. He reportedly kept his curtains drawn and stuck only the barrel of the gun out the window when he fired.

The first complaint was filed in April last year, when a resident who had stepped outside to sort recyclables was struck in the arm by a pellet.

Police launched an investigation but were unable to identify a suspect at the time due to a lack of clear leads. Reports and complaints about pellets flying in nightly continued to pour in.

After continuing the investigation, police identified A as the suspect roughly a year and a half after the initial complaint.

A told police he had purchased an electric rechargeable toy gun and fired it at night to watch the glow-in-the-dark pellets fly through the air. He claimed, however, that he did it purely for fun and had not been aiming at anyone.
