Nowon-gu District Mayor Seo Jun-o visited Sanggye Jungang Market and Gongneung-dong Dokkaebi Market on Wednesday morning to take part in a traditional market shopping event ahead of Chuseok, meeting with vendors and residents.
The event was organized to boost foot traffic at traditional markets during the Chuseok season and stimulate the local economy.
District Mayor Seo and senior district officials toured both markets, listening to vendors' concerns and residents' opinions and monitoring holiday price trends for Chuseok staples. They then joined in the shopping themselves, purchasing fruit and banchan to encourage use of traditional markets and promote local spending.
Sanggye Jungang Market and Gongneung-dong Dokkaebi Market are representative traditional markets in the area, with 77 and 118 shops respectively. Seo walked through the stalls, exchanging greetings with vendors and taking a close look at the atmosphere and business conditions ahead of the holiday.
"I hope that residents visiting traditional markets ahead of Chuseok will give real encouragement to local vendors," Seo said. "We will continue to listen directly on the ground and find ways to bring vitality to traditional markets and neighborhood commercial districts."
