Xi Jinping arrives at White House for summit with Trump

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived at the White House in Washington on Thursday (local time) for a summit with US President Donald Trump, Yonhap reported.

The visit marks Xi's first state visit to the United States in 11 years.

Trump and first lady Melania Trump greeted Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, as their motorcade pulled up to the South Portico of the White House.

Earlier, Xinhua reported that Trump and Melania had also given Xi and Peng a warm welcome when the Chinese leader's plane touched down in Washington.

Xi's US visit comes roughly four months after Trump's trip to China in May, in a reciprocal visit.

Xi was accompanied by Cai Qi, a member of the Politburo Standing Committee, and Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission and foreign minister.

He Lifeng, a Chinese vice premier, and Xie Feng, China's ambassador to the United States, who had arrived earlier at Joint Base Andrews near Washington, also welcomed Xi upon his arrival.
