Trinity Airways has partnered with NH Investment & Securities to strengthen its capacity to comply with the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation, known as CORSIA.

Trinity announced Monday that the two companies signed a mutual cooperation MOU on CORSIA and the domestic emissions trading system at Sono Trinity Commons in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, on Tuesday.

The agreement is the first MOU between a domestic airline and a financial firm covering both CORSIA and the emissions trading system. The two companies plan to use it as a springboard to expand cooperation across the broader carbon credit market.

The signing ceremony was attended by Trinity Chief Administrative Officer Seo Dong-bin, NH Investment & Securities Client Solutions Division Head Park Geon-hu, and other senior officials from both sides, who discussed future areas of cooperation.

The MOU was concluded in line with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's carbon reduction policy for the aviation sector and its CORSIA implementation framework, with the aim of proactively building compliance capacity and establishing a cooperative structure for the carbon credit market.

Under the agreement, the two companies plan to pursue a range of joint initiatives — sharing information on CORSIA and domestic greenhouse gas emissions markets and policies, building a joint response framework, co-developing emissions-related projects, and supporting the broader development of the carbon market.

The partnership is notable for moving beyond general support into concrete regulatory action. As a first step toward proactively meeting its CORSIA offsetting obligations, Trinity purchased 20,000 tons of CORSIA-eligible carbon credits and signed a contract to retire them, becoming the first domestic airline to do so.

Building on this, the company plans to purchase additional eligible credits by the end of this year, with the goal of securing more than 10 percent of its Phase 1 offsetting obligation — the volume that must be offset by January 2028 — in stages. The company said the approach is intended to improve the stability of its global greenhouse gas compliance and reduce operational risk from carbon credit price volatility and supply uncertainty.

Under CORSIA, airlines fulfill their offsetting obligations by acquiring the required volume of eligible credits within a set deadline and retiring them from a registry. Retirement permanently removes the credits from the registry, ensuring they cannot be used again.

In keeping with this framework, Trinity plans to proactively secure and retire CORSIA-eligible credits ahead of the formal confirmation and fulfillment of its offsetting obligations, demonstrating a concrete commitment to CORSIA compliance while improving the stability of its regulatory response.

"Through our cooperation with NH Investment & Securities, we have laid the groundwork to stably secure domestic and international carbon credits and respond to carbon regulations in a systematic way," Seo said. "We will strengthen our capacity to procure and manage credits and build an efficient compliance framework from a medium- to long-term perspective."

Trinity has been steadily expanding its ESG cooperation network. In September 2024, it signed an MOU with S-Oil on the commercial supply of sustainable aviation fuel and mutual cooperation on carbon reduction.

Meanwhile, Trinity has also been carrying out a range of corporate social responsibility activities, including a recent career education program for youth conducted in partnership with the National Aviation Museum.
