Yukwoo Beef Promotion Committee holds 8th national college beef cooking competition

The Yukwoo Beef Promotion Committee is accepting applications for the 8th National College Yukwoo Beef Cooking Competition, set for Nov. 8.

Hosted and organized by the Yukwoo Beef Promotion Committee and sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the event centers on the theme of "healthy yukwoo recipes using our domestic beef." The competition was designed to raise awareness of the quality of yukwoo — domestically raised beef prized for its taste and nutritional value — and to uncover fresh, practical recipes from college students.

The competition is open to college students enrolled in food service, culinary or food-related programs nationwide. Participants may enter individually or as a team. The application period runs from Monday through Oct. 25. Prospective entrants can apply by posting their recipes on the "Jijeuljijeu Club 1902 Meat Club" board on the Yukwoo Beef Promotion Committee's official website, which automatically registers the submission.

Submitted recipes will go through a judging process, with finalists announced Oct. 30. The final round will be held Nov. 8 at Seoul Now Cooking Studio in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.

A total of 20 participants will receive prizes, with a combined prize pool of 8.3 million won ($6,140) along with certificates. The grand prize winner will receive the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award and 2 million won, while two runners-up will each receive the Yukwoo Beef Promotion Committee Chair Award and 1 million won.

"We hope this will be a meaningful occasion to rediscover the appeal and wholesome value of domestic yukwoo beef through the bright ideas of college students and future chefs," said Jo Jae-seong, chair of the Yukwoo Beef Promotion Committee.
