Bill to advance through legislative process after National Assembly public hearing; ministry seeks input on boosting data ecosystem
The Ministry of Statistics met with private and public data experts Monday to discuss ways to strengthen the national data ecosystem, gathering field opinions on a proposed National Data Framework Act currently before the National Assembly.
The ministry said it held an expert advisory meeting Monday afternoon, ahead of the first anniversary of its elevation to full ministerial status, which falls on Thursday.
Deputy Minister Lee Myung-ho led the meeting, which drew representatives from universities, the legal community, the National Information Society Agency, Korea Credit Bureau and SK Telecom. Participants assessed the state of data ecosystems in both the private and public sectors and discussed directions for revitalizing them based on the proposed legislation.
The bill is currently before the National Assembly's Finance and Economic Planning Committee. It cleared a public hearing on Sept. 17, and the ministry said it is pushing to enact the law before the end of the year.
"I hope this meeting serves as an opportunity to raise attention to the national data ecosystem across both the private and public sectors and to explore concrete ways to invigorate it," Lee said.
