Jo Kang-hee, 61, took office Monday as the 11th president of the Metropolitan Landfill Site Management Corp.
Speaking at his inauguration ceremony, Jo said the corporation stands at a turning point requiring a redefinition of its status and role amid changes including a ban on direct landfilling and a decline in waste intake volumes. "Going forward, I will work together with employees through open communication to find the right path for the corporation's future and chart a new direction suited to the changed circumstances," he said.
Jo previously served as head of the climate and air quality division at the Korea Environment Corporation and as head of the business operations division at the Incheon Environment Corporation. He also served as co-representative of the Incheon Environmental Movement Alliance and director of the Incheon Upcycle Eco Center, gaining broad experience in both environmental policy and on-the-ground work.
Jo's term runs three years, through Sept. 27, 2029.
