Yeongcheon city council hosts North Gyeongsang municipal assembly speakers' monthly meeting

The Yeongcheon City Council in North Gyeongsang Province hosted the 348th monthly meeting of the North Gyeongsang Municipal and County Assembly Speakers' Council on Monday at the Yeongcheon Opel Golf Club to address shared challenges facing cities and counties across the province.

Assembly speakers from cities and counties throughout North Gyeongsang Province attended the meeting, sharing key local issues and holding focused discussions on legislative-level cooperation to overcome the threat of regional depopulation and promote local development.

The Yeongcheon City Council called for guaranteed fiscal autonomy amid concerns over cuts to local allocation tax funding. Participants also shared information on festivals across the province, including Let's Run Park Yeongcheon, which held its official opening this month, as well as the Punggi Ginseng Festival in Yeongju, the Yaktol Hanwoo and Apple Festival in Mungyeong, the Bonghwa Pine Mushroom Festival, the Cheongdo Bansi Persimmon Festival, the Gumi Food Festival and the Gimcheon Kimbap Festival.

The meeting adopted a resolution urging that ground-breaking on the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport proceed without delay and that relocation and compensation measures be put in place promptly. The assembly speakers present also expressed unified support for efforts to attract the Korea Racing Authority headquarters to Yeongcheon.

"This monthly meeting was a valuable occasion for city and county councils to exchange ideas closely and think together about the shared challenges facing North Gyeongsang Province," said Ha Gi-tae, speaker of the Yeongcheon City Council.
