DB Group accelerates AI transformation with data centers, agents and solutions

DB Group is stepping up its AI transformation, or AX, drive with a focus on AI data centers, AI agents and AI solutions.

The group said it held its "DB Group AI Strategy Report" event Tuesday at DB Financial Center in Daechi-dong, Seoul, with Founder Chairman Kim Jun-ki, Group Chairman Lee Su-gwang and other senior executives in attendance.

DB has been building out AI-related organizations and advisory bodies while running multiple working-level task forces. The event was organized to share AI strategies and showcase best practices already underway, with the aim of accelerating AX innovation across its affiliates.

At the event, three TFs — including the Group AI Advisory Council — presented progress reports on AI data centers, AI agents and AI solutions, the three new businesses they had selected as priority initiatives. Each affiliate also presented its own AI best-practice cases.

In the data center segment — the AI infrastructure business — various approaches were introduced, including plans to build and operate learning-purpose data centers and inference-focused edge data centers by making use of group affiliate sites with suitable conditions and downtown buildings.

The AI agent business will be led by the AX Promotion Office within DB INC's IT division. Described as a high-scalability area closely tied to existing operations, the session introduced multiple business models and applications aimed at boosting workplace productivity and efficiency.

On the hardware side of the AI solutions business, projects involving advanced semiconductor design and process technology being pursued jointly with Sungkyunkwan University's On-Device Research Center were presented. On the software side, DB Insurance's AI OCR project and an AI platform called "Vecta" — developed by DB INC's IT division and applied to insurance operations — were highlighted.

DB also invested in six leading-technology venture companies through its trading division's investment unit to secure key solutions early.

DB Group operates a system semiconductor foundry through DB HiTek and a fabless business through DB Global Chip, alongside a broad range of industries including IT, trading, real estate development, and insurance and finance.

"If our IT, foundry and fabless companies identify cutting-edge businesses to lead the AI era, and those businesses are realized through insurance, finance, manufacturing and service operations where rich data has accumulated, the group's AI competitiveness will rise to a new level," a DB Group official said.
