Damyang-gun is running a child-rearing allowance project aimed at easing the financial burden on teenage parents and single teenage parents who are raising children while also pursuing education or employment.
To qualify for the child-rearing allowance for teenage parents, both parents must be 24 or younger and raising a child together, and the household income must fall at or below 65 percent of the standard median income. Eligible households receive 250,000 won ($184) per child each month.
Starting this year, the income threshold for the teenage-parent child-rearing allowance was expanded to 65 percent of the standard median income, broadening the pool of eligible recipients.
Single teenage parents — those aged 24 or younger raising a child alone — are also eligible if their recognized income is at or below 65 percent of the standard median income. They receive 400,000 won ($294) per month for children aged 0 to 1, and 370,000 won per month for children aged 2 and older.
Those wishing to apply should visit the township or village office with jurisdiction over their registered address. Eligibility is determined after an investigation and review process.
