Gangwon Province shares senior civil servants' workplace know-how with junior staff

Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province has decided to share the workplace know-how of senior civil servants with junior employees to help them adapt more quickly to their roles.

The province's administrative innovation task force held a meeting Tuesday at a cafe in Chuncheon, where members exchanged a wide range of ideas on the theme of "personal work know-how" aimed at helping new and junior employees integrate into the organization and strengthen their job skills. The insights were compiled in an organized format for sharing with junior civil servants.

At the meeting, senior officials introduced practical tips drawn from their own on-the-job experience, covering reporting techniques, setting work priorities, communicating with colleagues and supervisors, and reducing trial and error in day-to-day tasks.

Participants particularly focused on how to effectively pass on hands-on experience that standard work manuals alone cannot convey, and discussed concrete ways to give new and junior employees meaningful support as they settle into the organization.

A specially selected "top instructor" also gave a lecture on official document writing to task force members, creating an opportunity for participants to learn from and share each other's expertise.

Based on the insights gathered at the meeting, the task force plans to produce a guidebook and card-format news content so that new and junior employees can easily put the advice to use.

Deputy Governor Yeo Jung-hyup said the firsthand experiences and records of trial and error that senior officials carry — the kind that never appear in any manual — are "an irreplaceable learning opportunity and compass for junior employees." He called on the organization to "harmoniously develop the wisdom of sunbae and the fresh perspectives of juniors, and build a healthy, horizontal organizational culture." It was his last official duty in Gangwon Province.
