Yeongcheon council pushes to relocate Korea Racing Authority headquarters to city

The Yeongcheon City Council in North Gyeongsang Province is intensifying its efforts to relocate the Korea Racing Authority headquarters to the city.

The council has made the relocation its top priority, according to the council Wednesday.

Earlier, it established a special committee dedicated to the relocation bid and adopted a resolution calling for the move, signaling strong institutional commitment both internally and publicly.

A key milestone came on Sept. 13, when Lets Run Park Yeongcheon — long sought by the city — successfully opened.

The council views the park's successful launch as a central argument for relocating the Korea Racing Authority headquarters, and is actively linking it to its broader campaign to bring the headquarters to the city.

The council has also moved to build broader regional support for the bid.

At the monthly meeting of the North Gyeongsang Province City and County Council Speakers' Association held in Yeongcheon on Monday, the case for relocating the Korea Racing Authority headquarters to the city was raised forcefully.

Assembly speakers from across North Gyeongsang Province who attended expressed strong agreement that relocating the Korea Racing Authority headquarters to Yeongcheon — following the opening of Lets Run Park Yeongcheon — would contribute to balanced development across the province and help invigorate the horse industry special zone.

"The opening of Lets Run Park Yeongcheon is a great first step toward establishing Yeongcheon as the center of South Korea's horse industry," Yeongcheon City Council Speaker Ha Gi-tae said. "We will not stop here — building on our solid alliance with the North Gyeongsang Province City and County Council Speakers' Association, we will make sure the Korea Racing Authority headquarters comes to Yeongcheon and breathes new vitality into the region."
