Lotte Biologics staff pick up litter at Incheon park in plogging drive

Lotte Biologics carried out an environmental cleanup drive with direct employee participation as part of its efforts to build closer ties with the Incheon community, where the company is establishing its biotech plant hub.

The company announced Wednesday that its in-house volunteer unit LB:Heart held a plogging event — jogging while picking up litter — at Hanmaeum Park in Seonhak-dong, Incheon, on Tuesday. About 20 employees took part, collecting discarded waste around the park and sorting it for recycling. The activity was organized to protect the local environment and improve living conditions for area residents.

Lotte Biologics has consistently carried out community outreach centered on Incheon, where its biotech mega-plant is being built.

The company began with a coal-briquette donation drive in December last year in partnership with the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, followed by deliveries of winter goods and school supplies to more than 10 children's centers in Incheon in January. In April, it held a tree-planting and environmental cleanup event in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, to mark Arbor Day.

Lotte Biologics said the activities are part of its broader push to strengthen bonds with the Incheon community and lay the groundwork for ESG — environmental, social and governance — management.

"Our employees were able to reflect on the meaning of practicing environmental stewardship in their daily lives and walking alongside the local community," a company official said. "We will continue to develop a range of outreach activities rooted in voluntary participation that give back to the community."
