South Korea takes silver in EMC mixed team for third consecutive Games

South Korea's EMC archery team claimed silver in the mixed team event at the Asian Games for the third consecutive time Wednesday, falling to India in a shootoff after a tightly contested final.

The pair of Park Jeong-yun and Choi Yong-hee finished level with India at 157-157 in the EMC mixed team final at the Multipurpose Plaza of Okazaki Central General Park in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, before losing the shootoff 19-20.

South Korea trailed 39-40 after the first end, then fell further behind at 78-80 as India shot a perfect 40 in the second. The Koreans clawed back to within one point at 117-118 with 39 in the third end, then nailed all four arrows in the 10-point ring in the fourth end to level the score at 157-157 and force a shootoff.

In the shootoff, Park hit a 10 but Choi managed only a 9. India landed both arrows in the 10-point ring for a perfect 20, taking the gold medal.

South Korea has now reached the final of the EMC mixed team event at every Asian Games since the discipline was introduced as an official event at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games, but has settled for silver each time.

In 2018, Kim Jong-ho and So Chae-won lost to Taiwan 150-151 in the final, and at the 2022 Hangzhou Games, Ju Jae-hun and So Chae-won fell to India 158-159. Blocked again by India this time, South Korea's first gold in the mixed event will have to wait.

Park earned her second medal of the Games, having earlier won bronze in the women's team event. Choi will also compete for a medal in the men's team event later Wednesday.
