Gimcheon City Council holds joint fire drill

The Gimcheon City Council in North Gyeongsang Province conducted its "2026 Second-Half Joint Fire Drill" Wednesday afternoon, running a simulated fire scenario at the council building for one hour starting at 2 p.m.

The drill was designed to strengthen employees' initial response capabilities in the event of a fire-related emergency at the building and to raise their awareness of workplace safety.

The exercise was carried out in close coordination with the Daegwang 119 Safety Center's field response unit, which officials said significantly enhanced its effectiveness.

The scenario assumed a fire breaking out in an outdoor air-conditioning unit on the first floor of the building.

From the moment the fire was reported, participants moved through a rapid sequence of emergency procedures — alerting staff, guiding evacuations, conducting search-and-rescue operations and suppressing the blaze — in a manner meant to replicate real conditions as closely as possible.

Council Speaker Oh Se-gil said the council would "do its utmost to protect the lives and safety of citizens and staff who visit the building through regular drills and education going forward."
