Five students from Yeungnam University of Science and Technology (YSU) were named winners in the student portfolio category at the 2026 ABEEK Capstone Design and Student Portfolio Competition, held Thursday at KINTEX Exhibition Hall 2.

In the student portfolio category for two- and three-year colleges, YSU produced three recipients of the Korea Engineering Education Accreditation Board (KEEAB) President's Award and two recipients of the Excellence Portfolio Award.

The KEEAB President's Award went to Park Geon-woo and Park Gi-hyeon of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Seo Sang-ho of the Department of Software Convergence. The Excellence Portfolio Award went to Kwon Seong-hyeon of the Department of Software Convergence and Shin Woo-gyeong of the ICT Semiconductor Electronics division.

Particularly notable is that three of the five KEEAB President's Award recipients in the two- and three-year college student portfolio category were YSU students.

Park Geon-woo, Park Gi-hyeon and Seo Sang-ho each showed how they had compiled the learning experiences and achievements from their respective majors into a coherent record of their competencies.

With the additional Excellence Portfolio Awards going to students from the Department of Software Convergence and the ICT Semiconductor Electronics division, YSU demonstrated student growth spanning mechanical engineering, software and semiconductor electronics.

The awards ceremony closed the 2026 Second Industrial-Academic Education Innovation Forum, co-hosted by the Ministry of Education and KEEAB.

A student portfolio is a compiled record of a student's learning activities, projects and practical work completed during their coursework, designed to demonstrate their competencies and growth over time.

The wins drew attention as evidence that YSU students had succeeded in systematically organizing the results of their major studies and effectively communicating their capabilities.

Also noteworthy was that multiple winners emerged from the same departments. Park Geon-woo and Park Gi-hyeon of the Department of Mechanical Engineering both received the KEEAB President's Award.

In the Department of Software Convergence, Seo Sang-ho took the KEEAB President's Award while Kwon Seong-hyeon received the Excellence Portfolio Award. Shin Woo-gyeong of the ICT Semiconductor Electronics division also joined the list of Excellence Portfolio Award recipients.

Oh Hyeong-jun, director of YSU's Engineering Education Innovation Center, said the five wins by students from different majors at a national competition reflected their dedication to building up their learning experiences and achievements. "We will consistently support students in developing their major competencies and connecting them to career paths and employment," he said.
