A K-MOOC course offered by Yeungnam University has been named a 2025 K-MOOC Blue Ribbon course by the National Institute for Lifelong Education.
The K-MOOC Blue Ribbon designation is a quality-certification program that evaluates courses based on annual assessment results, recognizing excellence in both operation and academic standards, the university said Saturday.
A total of 1,557 courses were included in the 2025 K-MOOC annual assessment, of which only 30 nationwide — just 1.93 percent — received the Blue Ribbon designation.
The selected course, "Learning Korean Culture Through K-Content," is a global open course aimed primarily at international learners and covers a broad range of Korean culture.
It offers a diverse curriculum spanning the features of hangul and the Korean language, Korean customs and traditional holidays, history and regional heritage, traditional lifestyle and culture, and classical and modern literature.
A key feature of the course is its use of globally influential K-content — including films, animation, K-pop, drama series and webtoons — as learning material to boost learner engagement and comprehension.
Through this approach, learners can develop a natural understanding of Korean society and culture, and acquire Korean language expressions and cultural sensitivity applicable to real-life situations.
The recognition acknowledges Yeungnam University's educational capabilities in expanding access to Korean language and culture education through K-content, and in providing high-quality online learning opportunities to students at home and abroad.
The course is available free of charge to anyone through the K-MOOC website.
Choi Young-wook, director of Yeungnam University's AI Smart Education Center, said the Blue Ribbon selection was "the result of faculty and staff consistently raising the quality of the course to meet learners' needs."
