The Daegu-Gyeongbuk English Village, operated by Yeungjin University, held a training program aimed at strengthening the English communication skills of elementary school teachers.
Thirteen elementary school teachers enrolled in an advanced English training course at the Daejeon Education Training Institute completed a two-night, three-day immersive English communication program at the village from Wednesday through Friday.
The program focused on giving teachers hands-on communication experience by having them use English directly in an immersive environment that closely mirrors everyday life and respond to a range of real-world situations.
Groups of three trainees and one native-speaking instructor formed teams and communicated entirely in English throughout the program — in classes, daily life activities, team-based collaborative tasks, meals and community activities.
In themed English experience rooms replicating real-life settings such as an airport, hotel, restaurant, hospital, travel agency and cultural venue, participants practiced conversing in English and solving problems through role-play exercises.
Even mealtimes were conducted in English with native-speaking instructors, ensuring that English use extended well beyond the classroom to cover the full range of experiential and community activities.
Park Jae-hong, director and professor of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk English Village, said the facility would continue developing tailored special courses for adults — including teachers, office workers and civil servants — as well as students, to keep expanding programs that build English communication skills.
Founded by Yeungjin University in 2007, the Daegu-Gyeongbuk English Village began by offering English immersion programs for elementary school students in the Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province area and has since built a wide range of situation-based, experience-centered English education programs.
More recently, it has been expanding its English immersion and global education services by partnering with educational institutions across the country, including those in the Honam region, Gangwon Province, the Chungcheong provinces and South Gyeongsang Province, in addition to Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province.
