Stories of warmth and cycles bloom on canvas
Show featuring Cheon Yeong-rok, Jeong Myeong-suk runs through Oct. 30
Namphyeong 507, a multipurpose cultural space in Naju, South Jeolla Province, has drawn attention as a hub for culture and the arts. The venue is hosting the Namphyeong Gallery's curated invitational exhibition "Round Life" — a two-artist show featuring Cheon Yeong-rok and Jeong Myeong-suk — through Oct. 30.
Under the title "Round Life," the exhibition surveys the artistic worlds of Cheon and Jeong, two painters who have each built a distinctive visual language by embracing life's twists and turns with a gentle, rounded sensibility.
The gallery presents works that visualize the rhythms of everyday life and the passage of time through repeated textures and harmonious arrangements of color. The rounded, fluid forms and layered strata of color are intended to offer warmth and inner calm to viewers navigating the pressures of contemporary life.
A dedicated video room operates alongside the main exhibition to enrich the viewing experience. The room continuously screens "Gaze on the Road: Artist Talk Archive" — a 20-minute program featuring candid interviews with Cheon and Jeong and an intimate look at their creative processes.
"I prepared this exhibition with the idea that life is like a 'round journey' — one of smoothing out sharp edges and embracing one another," said Jeong Myeong-suk, who heads Namphyeong 507. "I hope the warm colors and rounded forms that bloom from the two artists' brushes bring a small measure of comfort and renewed energy to everyone who visits."
