About 350 residents attend community briefing Friday to show strong interest in the project
Dobong-gu said a community briefing on the planned extension of the Ui-Sinseol Line drew strong interest from local residents when it was held Friday at Seoninbong Hall on the second floor of Dobong-gu Office. The event was organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Urban Infrastructure Headquarters and the Halla Construction consortium.
The extension project will connect Solbat Park Station — the current terminus of the Ui-Sinseol Line — to Banghak Station on Line 1, spanning 3.94 kilometers and adding three new stations along a large-scale urban rail corridor.
Once completed, the project is expected to fill a long-standing east-west transit gap in northern Dobong-gu and enable transfers between the Ui-Sinseol Line and Line 1, improving access to central Seoul.
Residents of the Ssangmun-dong and Banghak-dong areas are expected to benefit from significantly improved public transit access, with the project also expected to contribute to balanced regional development and economic revitalization.
About 350 residents attended the briefing, which was organized to present the project's progress and gather community feedback, reflecting high expectations for the development.
Attendees expressed hope that the project would address longstanding transit inequities in the area and raised a range of questions and suggestions covering construction safety measures, ways to accelerate the ground-breaking, and improvements to station accessibility.
Seoul city officials and project representatives answered residents' questions directly and pledged to actively consider the feedback during the detailed design and construction phases.
Dobong-gu District Mayor Kim Dong-wook said the Ui-Sinseol Line extension "is a long-cherished project our residents have waited 20 years for," and pledged to work closely with relevant agencies to ensure that community input gathered at the briefing is fully reflected in the project plan. He added that the district would "focus all its efforts on keeping resident communication as the top priority, so that the project proceeds without delay and reaches ground-breaking and completion as soon as possible."
