Gunwi-gun in North Gyeongsang Province announced Friday that the 50th Gunwi County Sports Festival had been held successfully at Gunwi General Stadium, drawing about 10,000 residents and former locals.
Held under the slogan "Beautiful Change, Happy Gunwi," the event brought together residents from across the county in a festival of unity and community spirit.
The eve-of-event celebration, which drew about 1,500 attendees, kicked off with performances by singers from Gunwi.
The festivities continued with a communal singing competition and stage performances by invited artists — singer Kwak Ji-eun, idol group S2It and singer Seol Ha-yoon — lifting the crowd's enthusiasm further.
The main event opened with a parade of athletes, a ceremony honoring distinguished county residents and an official opening declaration. A total of 320 athletes then competed across eight disciplines — including a 400-meter relay, tug-of-war, gateball and park golf — with Gunwi-eup claiming the overall championship.
Shin Hyeon-su, chairman of the Gunwi-gun Sports Council, said the organization would continue to do its best to promote healthy leisure and well-being for county residents.
Gunwi County Mayor Kim Jin-yeol thanked all residents for showing "the warm and sport-united spirit of a happy Gunwi" and expressed his gratitude again to everyone who took part.
