Four-time winner ends career at HJ Shipbuilding & Construction-Dongbu championship; official ceremony set for final round
Jang Su-yeon, a four-time winner on the KLPGA Tour, wrapped up her 14-year professional career on Friday.
The 32-year-old Dongbu player closed out her active career after the second round of the KLPGA Tour's HJ Shipbuilding & Construction-Dongbu Championship, held at A-One Country Club in Yangsan, South Gyeongsang Province. The tournament carries a purse of 1 billion won ($747,000).
Jang finished the two rounds at 2 over par, falling short of the 13-over cut line. She played her final competitive round at a tournament co-hosted by her own club sponsor.
Jang turned professional in June 2012 and claimed her first career victory at the 2016 Lotte Mart Women's Open, holing a dramatic chip-in eagle on the 18th hole in the final round to take the title. Later that year, she added a second win at the NH Investment & Securities Ladies Championship.
In 2017, she captured the KLPGA Championship, one of the tour's major titles. She completed her four-win career tally at the 2022 Lotte Rent-a-Car Women's Open, lifting the trophy four years and seven months after her previous victory.
After finishing her final round Friday, Jang handed out small gifts to fellow players as a farewell gesture. An official retirement ceremony is scheduled for the tournament's closing awards ceremony on the final day of competition.
