Three birdies, no bogeys for 9-under total; trails co-leaders by four strokes
Im Sung-jae kept his comeback bid alive with a bogey-free third round at the PGA Tour's Baycurrent Classic, which carries a purse of $8 million.
Im carded three birdies for a 3-under 68 on Saturday at Yokohama Country Club (par 71) in Japan.
At 9-under 204 for the tournament, Im moved up one spot from a tie for 13th to a tie for 12th. He trails co-leaders Michael Brennan, Zac Boscoe and Jacob Bridgeman — all of the United States — by four strokes, with the trio at 13-under 200.
Im picked up his first birdie at the par-5 fourth hole, sticking his third shot to within 1.7 meters of the cup. He added another at the par-4 eighth, draining a 4-meter putt to reach 2-under for the front nine. He then birdied the par-4 10th — the first hole of the back nine — after placing his approach within a meter of the pin. Im parred the remaining eight holes to complete a bogey-free round.
Sitting four strokes off the lead, Im will chase a come-from-behind victory in Sunday's final round.
Lee Sang-hee, who qualified through his standing on the Japan Golf Tour money list, made five birdies but offset them with a bogey and a quadruple bogey to shoot even-par 71. He sits in a tie for 62nd at 3-over 216 for the tournament.
