The Gosokjeong flower garden in Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon Province, continues to draw visitors in numbers that rival the famed lavender fields of Furano in Japan's Hokkaido.
Cheorwon-gun said Monday that 91,129 people visited the garden over the three-day Hangul Day holiday weekend alone, injecting fresh energy into nearby businesses and the local economy.
Combined with the spring season earlier this year, the garden has welcomed a cumulative 424,081 visitors so far in 2026 — more than 10 times the total population of Cheorwon-gun, which stands at roughly 40,000 residents.
Since opening in 2021, Gosokjeong flower garden has surpassed 3 million cumulative visitors, growing into a nationally recognized destination that draws tens of thousands of people each season.
The garden is reachable from Seoul and Gyeonggi Province within one to two hours. Its expansive grounds, planted with large-scale seasonal floral displays, have earned it a reputation as a top photography spot and an ideal destination for family outings.
"Even during the Hangul Day holiday, more than 30,000 people a day came to Cheorwon, which gave a strong boost to local small businesses, the farmers market and the food scene," Cheorwon-gun Mayor Kim Dong-il said. "We will continue to raise visitor satisfaction through diversifying flower varieties, developing nighttime landscape lighting and introducing a range of hands-on programs, so that Gosokjeong flower garden can become the defining tourism attraction of Cheorwon's autumn."
