A 3-year-old boy died while napping at a day care center in Cheongju, and his family has filed a criminal complaint against staff at the facility.
According to police, the family of the boy, identified only as A, filed a complaint Oct. 2 against five people — including the center's director and teachers — on charges of negligent homicide.
The complaint alleges that A died because those responsible failed in their duty of care, according to sources familiar with the filing.
The boy was found dead at the day care center at around 2:52 p.m. on Sept. 4, while he was napping.
A had no known pre-existing medical conditions, and no signs of physical trauma or abuse have been found, according to police.
Police have requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of death but have yet to receive the results.
