The North Gyeongsang Province chapter of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation held the 2026 North Gyeongsang Youth Member Council on Monday to strengthen the long-term competitiveness of agriculture and rural communities in the region.
The council opened with a keynote lecture by Kim Ju-won, head of the North Gyeongsang NH Agricultural Cooperative, on the theme "The Future of Agriculture and Rural Communities, and the Role of Young Members." Participants then discussed information sharing, policy recommendations and the identification of cooperative projects, as well as the direction needed to overcome the challenges facing agriculture and rural areas and achieve sustainable development.
"With rural aging deepening — members aged 60 or older now account for about 81 percent of the cooperative's membership — we will do our utmost to build a foundation that draws young people into rural communities and to create an environment that secures the future competitiveness of agriculture, rural areas and the cooperative," Kim said.
