IC card or QR code used for issuance
Home screen widget boosts accessibility
PIN and facial recognition protect personal data
Shinhan Bank is adding a mobile ID service to its integrated financial platform Super SOL, a move seen as part of a broader strategy to draw customers into the app for everyday tasks beyond banking.
Shinhan Bank announced Wednesday that customers can now obtain and use government-issued mobile IDs directly through Super SOL.
Users can apply for a mobile ID by scanning their IC-chip identification card or photographing a QR code provided by the issuing authority. Once issued, the mobile ID can be used for banking services at participating institutions, age verification at convenience stores, and identity checks at government offices.
A widget on the Super SOL home screen gives users direct access to their mobile ID. The ID display shows the current time and an animated background image to prevent fraudulent use through screen captures.
The service uses decentralized identity technology to protect personal data. Users must verify their identity via a PIN or facial recognition each time they access the service, and facial recognition data is stored in a distributed, encrypted format. Depending on the user's device, the service also supports a "secure wallet" linked to Samsung Wallet or a dedicated in-app wallet within Super SOL.
Shinhan Bank plans to keep expanding features that connect financial transactions with lifestyle services, aiming to improve the convenience and utility of Super SOL.
"Customers can now verify their identity easily through Super SOL without having to carry a physical ID," a Shinhan Bank official said. "We will incorporate customer feedback to improve the service and focus on stable operations and security management."
