Actors Ha Jung-woo, 48, and Cha Jung-won, 36, will marry on Dec. 13. The couple, who first met in 2020 and have been together for nearly six years, will finally tie the knot.
Ha's agency, Workhouse Company, confirmed Wednesday that the two will hold a private wedding ceremony on Dec. 13. Cha's agency, Saram Entertainment, also confirmed the news that day.
The two first met at a gathering of mutual acquaintances in 2020 and developed a romantic relationship. Their long-kept relationship became public on Feb. 4 this year.
Both agencies acknowledged the relationship at the time but drew a line at marriage, saying nothing had been decided. Ha also said he had thought about marrying Cha in the summer but that nothing was set. The wedding will now take place in winter, not summer.
Ha spoke candidly about why he chose to go public with the relationship. On the Coupang Play variety show "Ganghodong Neighborhood Bookstore," he recalled that speculative reports had begun circulating before either of them had said anything. "Dating isn't something strange — it just felt awkward, so I thought it would be better to just come out and say it," he said.
Once the relationship was out in the open, the couple made no effort to hide it. At the press conference for the tvN drama series "Mad Concrete Dreams" on March 9, Ha said Cha "always sends messages of support," adding, "Going public with the relationship didn't make me louder. Nothing really changed."
Ha had previously appeared on the YouTube channel "Jjan Han Hyung Shin Dong-yeop" in December last year and said he would "get there next year" when asked about marriage plans. True to his word, he will walk down the aisle before the year is out.
Cha appeared on the SBS variety show "Ani Geunde Jinjja!" in July, where the cast offered their congratulations. When asked how her boyfriend was doing, she blushed and said simply, "He's doing well." On Oct. 1, a coffee truck arrived on the set of her upcoming film, in which she plays a character barred from transforming. Cha tagged Ha's account on Instagram and posted a photo with the caption, "Ate well, thank you." The truck bore the message: "Visual genius Cha Jung-won."
Ha is the eldest son of actor Kim Yong-geon. To avoid riding on his father's name, he adopted the stage name Ha Jung-woo instead of his given name, Kim Sung-hoon. He graduated from Chung-Ang University with a degree in theater and made his debut in the 2003 film "Madeleine." He gained wider recognition in 2005 with director Yoon Jong-bin's "Unforgiven." The turning point came in 2008, when he played serial killer Ji Young-min in director Na Hong-jin's "The Chaser," catapulting him to stardom almost overnight. He went on to cement his status as one of South Korea's leading actors through "Take Off" (2009), "Nameless Gangster: Rules of the Time" (2012) and "The Terror Live" (2013). With "Assassination" (2015) and both installments of the "Along With the Gods" series, he has starred in three films that each drew more than 10 million admissions. In August 2018, he became the youngest actor to surpass a cumulative audience of 100 million. He reached international audiences in 2022 with the Netflix series "Narco-Saints."
Ha has also stepped behind the camera as a director. He made his directorial debut with "Rollercoaster" (2013) and followed it with "Ode to My Father" (2015), "Lobby" (2025) and "People Upstairs" (2025). In March this year, he returned to television for the first time in 19 years with "Mad Concrete Dreams."
Several projects are lined up ahead. In director Yoon Jong-bin's Netflix film "Ordinary People," Ha plays Chun Doo-hwan. He is also set to portray the younger years of journalist Lee Kang-hee in "Inside Men: Birth of Evil" (working title), a prequel to "Inside Men" (2015). That production is aiming to begin filming this year.
Cha was born in Busan in 1989. She made her debut in the 2012 film "Horror Stories" and appeared on the small screen in the MBC drama series "She Was Pretty" (2015). She took the lead in the web drama series "Wednesday 3:30 PM" (2017) and went on to appear in "Lawless Lawyer" (2018), "Special Labor Inspector Jo" (2019) and "Absolute Boyfriend" (2019). Last year she returned to the big screen in the film "Crash."
Cha has drawn attention for her sharp personal style and has built a following as a fashion and beauty influencer. Her Instagram account has more than 1 million followers. She recently appeared as a mentor on the tvN fashion survival show "Kill It: Style Creator Battle." She is currently filming a fantasy film in which she plays Jin Seo-rim, a human tree and shaman who has lived for 800 years, in a lead role. The film is set for release in 2027.
