Actor Nam Bo-ra has shared investment stories that looked impressive on paper — but far less so in practice.
On Thursday, Nam appeared on "Money Interrogation," a segment on the YouTube channel Chaenelkuku, where she discussed her investment history. She said she bought SK hynix shares at 195,000 won ($146) each and sold them at 215,000 won, netting a roughly 10 percent return — only to watch the share price climb sharply afterward, making the early exit a regrettable one.
She also recounted her Nvidia investment. Nam said she bought Nvidia shares during the COVID-19 pandemic and sold them after a 300 percent gain. When the other cast members reacted with amazement, she admitted she had owned just a single share, drawing laughter.
Asked about a tip that she had spent the price of a car on drinks, Nam brought up makgeolli, a traditional Korean rice wine. "I went through a phase where I was completely hooked on makgeolli," she said. "Truly well-crafted liquor is really expensive." Her obsession went as far as going out to brew it herself. "One thing led to another, and the drink bills just kept piling up," she added.
When asked whether she had ever wanted to release her own makgeolli, Nam said, "Back then I had that dream — I really did. But, well, it didn't work out." She named gold as her biggest recent splurge, adding that she had even bought a safe to store it at home.
About a year into her marriage, Nam also touched on how she and her husband manage their finances. "When people get married, they usually pool their income — husbands put their paychecks into their wife's account," she said. "So why doesn't mine?" The remark drew laughs.
When host Park Young-jin asked whether she had any investments she kept secret from her husband, Nam said, "I don't hide anything, but there are things I just haven't mentioned."
The second child and eldest daughter among 13 siblings — eight brothers and five sisters — Nam said she asks her third sister, who works at a bank, about good financial products every time they meet. When Park suggested the sister might be reaching out only to meet her sales targets, Nam quipped, "She does tend to get in touch right around the end of the month."
Nam, who recently gave birth to a son, also shared her family plans. "In my heart I'd want five," she said, "but given my age, three is probably the absolute limit."
