Hanwha Solutions' Wire & Cable division has successfully validated its technology in the next-generation ultra-high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) transmission segment, expanding its lineup of ultra-high-voltage cable materials.

Hanwha Solutions announced Friday that it completed technical validation of XLPE insulation and semiconductive material packages for 500kV HVAC cables, working separately with Chinese ultra-high-voltage cable manufacturers Qingdao Hanhe and TBEA.

The tests were conducted by TICW, a certification body affiliated with China's SECRI, and focused on insulation performance and long-term reliability under ultra-high-voltage transmission conditions. Hanwha Solutions has now established the reliability of its ultra-high-voltage insulation material technology at both the 400kV and 500kV levels.

The technical validation is expected to translate into stronger global sales. Hanwha Solutions projects its global SEHV XLPE sales volume this year will roughly double from a year earlier. In China particularly, sales of ultra-high-voltage materials — including 325kV SEHV XLPE — are expected to grow about threefold compared with last year.

Carlo Scalata, head of Hanwha Solutions' Wire & Cable division, called the successful 500kV HVAC cable material type test "an important milestone demonstrating that Hanwha Solutions has secured world-class technological reliability in the field of cable materials for ultra-high-voltage power transmission."
