Event held Friday at Yongsan Arts Hall draws about 800 attendees; district unveils 'Yongsan, a Charming City Opening the Future' as its 9th-term slogan
Yongsan-gu held its 33rd Residents' Day ceremony Friday at Yongsan Arts Hall in Seoul, bringing together community members for a celebration of the district.
Residents' Day marks the official establishment of Yongsan-gu as a district of Seoul on Oct. 18, 1946. The district has held an annual commemorative event around that date since 1994.
About 800 people attended, including Yongsan-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-dae, Yongsan District Council Speaker Jang Jeong-ho, and representatives from the Seoul Metropolitan Council and the district council, along with community members.
The ceremony opened with performances by the Yongsan District Choir and the Little Singgut vocal ensemble, followed by an opening act combining LED drumsticks with digital visuals and a commemorative video marking the occasion.
Thirteen residents received the district's civic merit award for their contributions to the community. District Mayor Kim personally presented the awards and expressed gratitude for their dedication across the district.
A special performance unveiled the district's new 9th-term slogan, "Yongsan, a Charming City Opening the Future." The district pledged to build an attractive city that everyone wants to visit and linger in, and to shape Yongsan's future together with its residents.
A celebratory concert followed the ceremony, featuring performers Lee Mu-song, No Sa-yeon, Jeon Yeong-rok and Kim Yeon-ja.
Side activities rounded out the event, including calligraphy of family mottos and inspirational phrases by the Yongsan Calligraphy Association, balloon art giveaways by the Yongsan Volunteer Center, and a promotional booth by the Yongsan Welfare Foundation.
"The true drivers of Yongsan's change and growth have always been its residents," District Mayor Kim said. "I am deeply grateful to every resident who has shown such warm support and encouragement for Yongsan." He added that the district would "listen closely to residents' voices, create changes they can feel in their daily lives, and build 'Yongsan, a Charming City Opening the Future' together with the community."
