Programs for families with young children and childcare staff run Monday through Oct. 31; prizes including LG Electronics products up for grabs at Oct. 31 quiz event
Geumcheon-gu will run a series of programs from Monday through Oct. 31 to mark National Childcare Week, the district said.
The lineup includes a free admission event at an indoor playground, a safety experience class for young children, and a quiz competition called "Dad's Parenting Golden Bell" designed to encourage fathers to take a more active role in raising their children.
Now in its fifth year, the district's childcare week is organized to recognize the efforts of childcare staff and to offer young children and their parents a range of hands-on and cultural experiences. This year's theme is "Vibrant Geumcheon! Happy Childcare Together."
The event is divided into two tracks: one for childcare staff and one for young children and their parents, with programs tailored to each group.
For childcare staff, the district will offer a series of wellness programs aimed at helping them recharge outside their daily routines — an awareness-raising campaign for childcare workers, a chilbo (cloisonné) craft workshop, a gourmet experience featuring flower tea, and a healing musical performance.
The programs are intended to recognize the hard work of childcare staff who support the healthy development of young children and to give them an opportunity to relieve job-related stress and refresh.
Programs for young children and parents are also on offer. Families can enjoy and participate through a chilbo and rattan craft workshop, free admission to an indoor playground, a safety experience class, a Seoul-type kids cafe called "Kkoma Maeum Baedal-bu," a Saegil Science Playground program, and the Dad's Parenting Golden Bell quiz event.
In particular, a free indoor playground admission event runs Tuesday through Saturday. Families can reserve spots online to visit Aisesang Playground's Siheung branch — a play space for young children — and the Saegil Science Playground, an indoor science-themed play facility, at no charge.
On Tuesday, a safety experience class will be held at the Geumcheon-gu Office plaza, where participants can simulate everyday accidents and disaster scenarios to learn safety rules and proper responses. On-site registration opens at 3:30 p.m.
The highlight of the month is the Dad's Parenting Golden Bell, to be held Oct. 31 in the grand auditorium on the 12th floor of the Geumcheon-gu Office. Participants will answer quiz questions covering parenting knowledge and related policies, with the event aimed at encouraging fathers' involvement in childcare. Residents wishing to take part can apply through the Geumcheon-gu Childcare Comprehensive Support Center website. Prizes — including an LG Electronics StanbyME 2 and a CordZero cordless vacuum cleaner — will be awarded to winners and participants alike.
"We have prepared a variety of hands-on opportunities to recognize the dedication of childcare staff and to let young children and their parents enjoy time together," Geumcheon-gu District Mayor Choi Ki-chan said. "We will actively support efforts to create a childcare environment where children, parents and childcare workers can all be happy."
