Mungyeong Mayor Kim Hak-hong has taken a hands-on approach to securing funding needed to fulfill his ninth-term campaign pledges and resolve pressing local issues.
According to Mungyeong City, Kim met Monday with the head of the Ministry of Interior and Safety's Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters to explain the need for key local and disaster-prevention projects and formally request special local allocation tax grants and central government funding.
During the meeting, the city requested a total of 7.1 billion won ($5.29 million) in special local allocation tax grants for three projects, including the construction of an observation tower at Mungyeongsaejae.
In addition, Kim sought central government support for two other major projects requiring national funding, including an improvement project for areas designated as natural disaster risk zones.
Mungyeong City said it plans to continue building close cooperative ties with central government ministries and North Gyeongsang Province, and to pursue ongoing consultations to secure national and provincial funding for key projects and ninth-term campaign pledges.
"We will keep communicating and consulting with related ministries to secure the budget Mungyeong needs to develop," Kim said. "We will do our utmost to obtain the national and provincial funding required to address local issues and advance major projects."
