The 17th Gwangju International Art Fair, the largest art festival in the Honam region, will be held Thursday through Sunday at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Chipyeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju.
A total of 94 galleries from 12 countries will take part, operating 113 booths covering exhibition and service space.
The fair will showcase works across a wide range of genres — painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, installation, media art and craft — alongside special exhibitions introducing both internationally acclaimed masters and emerging local artists.
The "Heroes of Contemporary Art" exhibition will feature works by and materials related to world-renowned artists including Yayoi Kusama, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat and David Hockney.
The "Rising Star" showcase, which highlights young local artists, has expanded its eligibility this year from Gwangju to include South Jeolla Province, and will display works by four artists: Kim Myeong-jin, Kim Ha-seul, Yu Su-yeon and Jeon Jeong-yeon.
A "Propose" exhibition featuring pieces from local collectors and a special exhibition spotlighting artists with disabilities will also be held. Visitors can take part in docent tours, children's art experience programs and an art shop, among other side events.
