Gyeongju city in North Gyeongsang Province has launched an initiative to sharpen the on-site reporting skills of its social media promoters and expand online promotion of the city's tourism resources.
The city held a field familiarization tour Wednesday for members of its 16th SNS Promoter cohort, designed to deepen their understanding of local tourism assets and help them develop promotional content.
The tour was organized to gather firsthand information about key tourism facilities and identify material suitable for online promotion campaigns.
Participants visited "Flashback Gyerim," a media art installation, and Gyeongju Luge World, where they explored the main facilities and tourism programs on offer.
The tour placed particular emphasis on showcasing the breadth of Gyeongju's tourism offerings — going beyond its historical and cultural heritage to include media art and hands-on experiential attractions.
Promoters also shared information and impressions gathered during the field visits and discussed strategies for conveying the distinctive character of each tourism resource through social media.
Now in its 16th cohort, the Gyeongju SNS Promoter program tasks citizen volunteers with spending a year covering city news, local festivals and tourist attractions firsthand and sharing their reports across social media platforms.
Gyeongju Mayor Ju Nak-young said the SNS promoters serve as "an important communications channel that conveys the diverse stories of Gyeongju from a citizen's perspective." He expressed hope that they would "continue to uncover new charms of Gyeongju through field-based reporting and deliver vivid, useful information to residents and tourists alike."
