From global GPU technology to AI model development
A forum has been organized to explore the latest trends in global GPU technology, AI model development using high-performance computing infrastructure, and the potential for applying AI technology across industries.
The AI Industry Convergence Agency is holding the two-day "AI Tech Seminar" on advancing the Gwangju National AI Data Center at the Western Life Hotel in Iksan, North Jeolla Province, on Thursday and Friday.
Hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency and organized by the AI Industry Convergence Agency, the seminar drew about 100 participants, including representatives from companies, universities, research institutions and related organizations that use the Gwangju National AI Data Center.
The seminar was organized to strengthen the technical capabilities of users who receive high-performance computing services through the Gwangju National AI Data Center advancement project and to share research and development cases and outcomes using high-performance AI computing infrastructure, in response to the rapidly changing global AI technology landscape.
Discussions will focus particularly on global GPU technology trends, AI-native innovation and AI model development, examining the industrial applicability of AI technology and exploring ways to expand technology exchange and cooperation among industry, academia and research institutions.
On the first day, Thursday, expert lectures surveying the latest trends in global AI technology were followed by presentations on AI model development from users of the Gwangju National AI Data Center.
Sogang University Professor Yoon Seok-bin opened with a presentation on "AI-native innovation," outlining the direction of technological transformation driven by shifts in AI infrastructure and services. Nvidia's Yang Min-gyu then shared the latest trends in global GPU technology.
Companies and universities that have applied the data center's high-performance computing resources to actual research and development also presented their experiences.
Persona AI Chief Executive Yoo Seung-jae, Autonomous A2Z Executive Director Hyun Seung-hwa and Ajou University Professor Lee Sang-hoon shared their experiences developing AI models using high-performance computing resources provided through the Gwangju National AI Data Center advancement project.
On Friday, discussions will be held to gather feedback from data center users and map out the direction for future service development.
Participants are expected to share areas for improvement and demand arising from their use of AI computing infrastructure, and to discuss ways to advance user-centered service upgrades and support systems.
The AI Industry Convergence Agency plans to use the seminar as an opportunity to strengthen technology exchange and cooperation networks among Gwangju National AI Data Center users, and to contribute to the vitalization of the domestic AI industry ecosystem by spreading the outcomes of high-performance AI computing infrastructure use.
Kwak Jae-do, acting head of the AI Industry Convergence Agency, said he hopes the event will serve as "a meaningful platform for connecting the research and development experiences and achievements of Gwangju National AI Data Center users." He added that the agency would "actively support efforts to translate AI research and development outcomes into technology commercialization and innovation on the ground."
