The Industry and Construction Committee of the Yeongcheon City Council in North Gyeongsang Province visited seven major project sites Wednesday to review their operational status and identify areas for improvement, during the 255th extraordinary session.
Five committee members received briefings from the heads of relevant departments and discussed problems and countermeasures at each site.
At the Eunhaeroun Rest Village in Cheongtong-myeon, the committee confirmed difficulties in attracting visitors and maintaining facilities, and called for effective measures to normalize operations, including amendments to relevant ordinances if necessary.
At the recently opened Let's Run Park Yeongcheon, members requested that parks and experiential facilities be developed as part of the second phase of the project so that families can enjoy leisure activities there.
In the afternoon, the committee visited SP Environment Co. in the Donam Industrial Complex, where it reviewed fire prevention measures — including the introduction of an AI video analysis system and efforts to address odor complaints — and said transparency in waste processing and worker safety must be prioritized.
At the Lifestyle Resource Recovery Center, members urged the city to secure adequate sorting personnel and improve working conditions.
At the urban renewal project site in Wansan-dong, the committee called for realistic rental fees for the small performance hall and a more diverse program lineup to help the facility become financially self-sustaining.
At the barefoot loess trail in the Urooji Natural Forest in Mangjong-dong, members raised the need to provide rest and amenity spaces for park maintenance workers.
At the Unjusan Equestrian Training Center, the final stop, the committee noted that visitor numbers had risen about 30 percent from the previous year, partly due to the opening of the nearby horse racing park. Members requested stable staffing arrangements, including converting specialist instructors to permanent civil service positions.
Committee Chairman Lee Gap-gyun said the visit allowed members to conduct a thorough inspection of the major project sites. "We will develop effective improvement measures so that residents can enjoy a better living environment," he said.
