Inha University Hospital has sharply climbed in a global smart hospital ranking, earning recognition for its AI-driven medical innovation.

The Incheon-based hospital ranked 68th in the world and seventh in South Korea in the "2027 World's Best Smart Hospitals" assessment released by Newsweek and market research firm Statista, the hospital announced Friday.

The result marks a jump of 93 places globally and four places domestically from last year's rankings of 161st in the world and 11th in South Korea.

The hospital was also named to the newly introduced "AI Innovation Leader" category, one of only 40 hospitals selected out of 410 evaluated worldwide.

Four South Korean hospitals made the AI Innovation Leader list, including Inha University Hospital. The hospital also earned four out of a possible five ribbons in the digital maturity assessment.

Inha University Hospital uses a range of AI technologies to improve patient safety and care efficiency.

These include a system that predicts cardiac arrest risk in hospitalized patients up to 24 hours in advance, an AI-powered fall-prevention monitor, and electrocardiogram analysis technology. AI imaging interpretation has been applied to six types of examinations, including brain MRI and chest CT scans.

The hospital also operates robotic surgery systems, a remote intensive care unit (e-ICU), and a remote video consultation system with Baengnyeong Hospital.

It is expanding digital-based medical and administrative systems, including mobile care services and robots for rehabilitation and specimen transport.

"Our efforts to apply digital technology to improving patient safety and the quality of care have been recognized internationally," said Lee Taek, president of Inha University Medical Center and Inha University Hospital. "We will continue to introduce and validate AI technologies that provide real, practical benefits to patients."
