Eagle fuels 2-under round; Smotherman, Power share lead at 16 under
Noh Seung-yul climbed to a share of 17th place after the third round of the PGA Tour's Butterfield Bermuda Championship, which carries a $6 million purse.
Playing Sunday (Korean Standard Time) at Port Royal Golf Course (par 71) in Southampton, Bermuda, Noh posted an eagle, a birdie and a bogey for a 2-under-par 69. His three-round total of 10-under-par 203 moved him up six spots from a share of 23rd, leaving him six strokes off the lead.
Noh made his move in blustery conditions with an eagle at the par-5 7th hole. After his tee shot found the rough, he reached the green with his second shot and drained a putt from about 4.2 meters for the eagle. He bogeyed the par-3 16th but bounced back with a birdie at the par-5 17th.
Noh has competed primarily on the Korn Ferry Tour this season and needs to improve his FedEx Cup Fall standings to secure a PGA Tour card for next season.
Austin Smotherman of the United States and Seamus Power of Ireland share the 54-hole lead at 16-under-par 197.
Smotherman shot a 5-under 66 on Sunday, while Power posted a 4-under 67. Smotherman, who claimed his first PGA Tour victory earlier this season at the Bank of Utah Championship, is chasing his second title of the year.
Taylor Moore of the United States and Canadians Corey Conners and Ben Silverman are tied for third at 14 under par.
With 12 players within four strokes of the lead and strong winds again forecast for the final round, a tight finish is expected.
