2,000 drones to light up Han River sky Saturday night in Marvel spectacular

Iron Man will take to the skies above the Han River on Saturday night, as 2,000 drones illuminate the autumn sky.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced Sunday that it will stage a Marvel Special as the final Han River drone light show of the year on Oct. 31.

The performance begins at 8:30 p.m. at Ttukseom Hangang Park, where 2,000 drones will recreate Iron Man and other iconic Marvel characters alongside key scenes from the franchise.

A series of events will take place across Ttukseom Hangang Park ahead of the main show.

These include a themed photo zone for "Avengers: Doomsday," which opens Dec. 16, as well as a costume parade.

The city has linked the event to local food stalls and hands-on programs so that crowds drawn by the drone show can also support nearby businesses.

Near the venue, exits 2 and 3 of Jayang Station will host Seoul's Farmers Market, a direct-trade market connecting urban consumers with rural producers.

Discount coupons for use at nearby restaurants through the Baemin app will also be available.

Because the show falls on Halloween and is expected to draw large crowds as the year's final drone light show, the city plans to deploy additional safety personnel.

Extra subway runs at Jayang Station and non-stop pass-through measures based on platform congestion will also be in place.

The city urged visitors to check the official website (seouldroneshow.com) before heading out, as the show may be rescheduled or canceled depending on weather conditions such as strong winds or rain.

"The Han River drone light show is a premier nighttime tourism attraction that combines world-class content with the charm of Seoul," said Jo Seong-ho, director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Tourism and Sports Bureau. "We hope the Marvel-themed visuals from 2,000 drones and the special programs will give citizens a wonderful memory of an autumn night."
