Lawyer recalls Yoon practicing swings at Hannam-dong residence waiting room
'Democratic Party should apologize for spreading false claims about lavish golf facility'
Yu Jeong-hwa, a lawyer representing former President Yoon Suk Yeol, directly criticized golf-related allegations surrounding President Lee Jae Myung and his wife, saying, "Our president was just hitting wall swings in a waiting room — how times have changed."
Yu made the remarks Monday on social media, recalling how Yoon had practiced his golf swing toward a screen in a staff waiting area at the Hannam-dong presidential residence.
"On top of President Lee Jae Myung's family golf outings, there are now allegations that first lady Kim Hye-kyung received lessons from a professional golfer," Yu said. "It is deeply troubling to hear that he was enjoying golf even on a day when a national disaster occurred."
She added that "what needs to be corrected before one's swing posture is the attitude of 'rules for thee but not for me.'"
Yu went on to say, "The Democratic Party, which could not say a word about the Lees' imperial golf outings yet spread false claims calling President Yoon's wall swings a lavish golf facility, should apologize."
Earlier, People Power Party lawmaker Ju Jin-woo alleged that President Lee visited Taereung Golf Course in Seoul on Oct. 10 — the day a ceiling collapse at a commercial building in Daegu killed people — and demanded the government disclose details of its emergency response. Ju also raised allegations that first lady Kim Hye-kyung played golf and received lessons from a prominent female professional golfer at the same course on Oct. 20, releasing related footage.
In response, Cheong Wa Dae said it would hold strictly accountable anyone who reported unverified, one-sided claims as fact or spread false information.
Professional golfer Lydia Ko, whom Ju had named during a national audit session while raising the allegations, also denied any involvement on her social media that day. "The content of the reports is not true and has nothing to do with me," she wrote, adding that she planned to pursue legal action "against articles, posts and comments that spread unverified false information or damage my reputation."
