Branch to support technology demonstration, testing and certification for recycling industrial byproducts from steel, metal and other sectors
Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL), a public testing and certification institution, has opened a branch in Gwangyang, the South Jeolla Province city home to Gwangyang Steel Works.
Gwangyang held an opening ceremony Tuesday at the Ikshin General Industrial Complex in Gwangyang-eup, with Deputy Mayor Lee Sang-yong and Lee Gil-yong, director of the space and advanced materials bureau of the Jeonnam-Gwangju integrated special city, among those in attendance.
KTL is a public institution under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy that carries out testing, evaluation and certification in the industrial technology sector. The Gwangyang branch is the second to open within the integrated special city, after Gwangju.
The branch spans 2,490 square meters and is equipped with 19 types of testing and evaluation instruments, including a metal materials mass spectrometer, equipment for extracting and processing valuable metals, and ultra-precision analysis instruments for recycled materials.
The branch will support technology development and commercialization aimed at recycling industrial process byproducts from the steel and metal sectors, as well as from the Yeosu petrochemical industry, into high-value-added resources.
