Foundation and LG Science Park to pursue joint technology verification and R&D collaboration
Twelve domestic deep tech companies with advanced capabilities in AI, robotics and biotech are joining forces with LG Group to identify new future businesses. The initiative aims to accelerate market entry for innovative technologies by broadening collaboration across technology verification, joint research and development, and commercialization.
The Korea Research Development Special Zone Foundation said it held the 2026 R&D Special Zone–LG Open Innovation Meetup at LG Science Park in Magok, Seoul, on Wednesday.
The event was designed to connect promising deep tech companies within R&D special zones with LG's technology needs for future businesses and to uncover practical opportunities for commercialization partnerships.
The foundation and LG Science Park recruited participating companies based on LG's core technology demands in AI, bio-healthcare, clean tech and emerging technologies. Twelve companies were ultimately selected after a comprehensive evaluation of their technological fit, competitiveness and commercialization capabilities.
The selected companies held one-on-one consultations with LG Science Park's technical experts across various fields. Discussions went beyond simple technology introductions to focus on practical applications in real industrial settings and the potential for joint commercialization.
Both organizations plan to move forward with follow-up collaboration following the event.
The foundation will connect companies where collaboration potential has been confirmed with pilot project planning and scale-up support. LG Science Park plans to hold additional consultations with working-level staff at its affiliates and explore opportunities for technology and product exhibitions, proof-of-concept testing and joint R&D.
"For deep tech companies in special zones to be competitive in the market, technology verification in real industrial settings and securing commercialization partnerships are essential," said Jeong Hui-gwon, chairman of the foundation. "We will connect large companies' technology needs with the innovative capabilities of special zone companies to expand opportunities for new market entry and growth."
