Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun visited the newly renovated hiking rest area on Maebongsan (San 53-6, Seongsan-dong) on Wednesday to inspect the facilities and gather feedback from residents.
The renovation was prompted by requests from residents who use the Maebongsan rest area for a more comfortable space to relax. The district took residents' input and the conditions for installing facilities within the forest into account, upgrading the existing rest area to make it more pleasant and convenient.
The site now features a 58-square-meter deck and a large pergola, giving hikers a comfortable place to rest along the trail.
The surrounding area was also planted with 1,073 shrubs — including weigela and hydrangea — and 170 ground-cover plants such as creeping euonymus, creating a rest space that blends with the natural forest landscape.
During the visit, Yoo toured the newly installed deck and pergola and spoke with residents who had come to hike Maebongsan, exchanging views on how the rest area is being used.
"We renovated the Maebongsan rest area to reflect what residents told us they wanted," Yoo said. "I hope visitors will pause for a moment and enjoy a peaceful rest in nature at the refreshed space."
