7 million won raised through Naver HappyBean combined with 3 million won donation brings total to 10 million won
Hopes for People, a nonprofit organization, held a ceremony Wednesday at the Independence Patriots Welfare Center in Seoul to present living expense support to descendants of independence patriots.
The total support package amounts to 10 million won ($7,550), combining 7 million won raised through Naver HappyBean with an additional 3 million won contributed directly by Hopes for People.
Recipients were selected based on recommendations from the Korean Liberation Association, with 500,000 won to be distributed to each of 20 descendants currently facing financial hardship.
Kim Jeong-an, chairman of Hopes for People, said the organization put together the support package "to honor the noble spirit of the independence patriots who devoted themselves to building the Republic of Korea we have today, and to offer even a small measure of strength to their descendants." Kim added that the organization would "continue a variety of activities that fulfill our social responsibilities and contribute to spreading a culture of honoring those who served the nation."
Hopes for People has long been active in supporting marginalized communities and carrying out social contribution activities. The organization has provided living expense assistance and delivered care packages to national merit recipients, and plans to continue serving as a reliable pillar of support for veterans' families facing financial difficulties.
