Kumho Tire announced Thursday that Hampyeong Fire Station Chief Choi Hyeong-ho visited the construction site of its planned Hampyeong factory at the Bitgreen Industrial Complex.
Choi led a five-member delegation to the site Wednesday afternoon to tour the construction area and urge workers to prioritize safety at what is expected to become a key growth engine for both Kumho Tire and the Hampyeong region.
The visit began with a meeting at an on-site office, where Kumho Tire's Hampyeong Factory Construction Division head Kim Seong-hyeon, along with fire safety supervisors and on-site fire safety managers, briefed attendees on construction progress, the project schedule and the current state of safety management.
The delegation then conducted a walkthrough of the site in compliance with safety regulations.
The Hampyeong factory is designed to serve as a core advanced production base for tires for high-performance vehicles, electric vehicles and autonomous driving vehicles. Warehouse construction has been completed and work on the refining building is underway. The first phase will be built to a production capacity of 15,000 tires per day, or 5.3 million per year, with operations targeted to begin in the first half of 2028.
"Construction of the Hampyeong factory, which will serve as the core production hub responsible for Kumho Tire's future competitiveness and as a catalyst for regional economic development, is being carried out with safety as the top priority," Kim said. "We will continue to be thorough about safety."
Choi called on the construction team to remain vigilant throughout the entire process. "Thorough advance inspections and prevention-focused safety management are the foundation for keeping construction sites safe," Choi said. "Please do your utmost to prevent fires and safety accidents at every stage of construction."
