The Korea Capital Market Institute has partnered with the Japan Securities Research Institute (JSRI), Japan's leading capital market research body, to expand bilateral research cooperation in finance and capital markets. The two institutions aim to share policy and regulatory developments in their respective markets and strengthen the foundation for international research collaboration through joint studies and academic exchanges.

The Korea Capital Market Institute announced Thursday that President Kim Se-wan signed a memorandum of understanding on research cooperation with JSRI President Morimoto Manabu in Tokyo on Wednesday.

It marks the first time JSRI has signed an MOU with a Korean research institution. Founded in 1961 at the initiative of Japan's securities industry, JSRI is an independent, neutral research body that studies the functions and regulatory frameworks of financial and capital markets, including related laws and tax systems, and offers policy recommendations. After converting to a public interest foundation in 2010, JSRI has also supported academic research on capital markets through publications and seminars.

JSRI maintains broad networks across Japan's financial investment industry and academia. Senior executives from major financial institutions — including Japan Exchange Group (JPX), Nomura Holdings and Daiwa Securities — as well as academic figures serve as councillors and board members.

Under the agreement, the two institutions will expand information sharing on financial and capital market trends and related laws and regulatory frameworks in both countries. They also plan to hold regular exchanges of views among researchers, facilitate personnel exchanges, and co-host joint seminars and academic events.

The Korea Capital Market Institute said it expects the agreement to deepen mutual understanding of the two countries' capital markets, strengthen research capabilities and broaden the foundation for international research cooperation, ultimately contributing to the development of capital markets in both South Korea and Japan.
