Ulleung-gun in North Gyeongsang Province held its "2026 Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill" on Friday, simulating building collapses and large-scale fires triggered by an earthquake.
About 120 personnel from 11 organizations took part, including Ulleung-gun Office, Ulleung 119 Safety Center, Ulleung Police Station, the Donghae Coast Guard's Ulleung substation, the Navy's 118th Early Warning Squadron, the Air Force's 319th Air Defense Control Battalion, Korea Electric Power Corporation's Ulleung branch, KT Corp's Ulleung branch, and civilian rescue groups.
The drill was designed to strengthen the county's capacity to respond systematically to disasters that are growing increasingly diverse and large in scale.
Participants conducted a comprehensive review of inter-agency coordination and response procedures — from initial situation reporting at the onset of a disaster through search and rescue, on-site emergency medical care, and the operation of a disaster response command structure.
"We will reinforce the functional capabilities of all Ulleung-gun Office staff so they can respond swiftly and systematically to any disaster, and fulfill our mission to ensure residents can always live with peace of mind," County Chief Nam Han-kwon said.
