Rep. Jung Hee-yong (Goryeong-Seongju-Chilgok) attended the unveiling ceremony of a monument honoring Lee Woo-seok, chairman of Dong-A Exports Corp., held Saturday in Bongjong 2-ri, Chojeon-myeon, Seongju-gun.
Lee was born in 1935 in Chojeon-myeon, Seongju-gun, North Gyeongsang Province. In 1967, Lee founded Dong-A Exports Corp. and went on to produce 85 films — including "Miwodo Dasi Hanbeon" (Even If I Hate You, Once More Again) and "Gipgo Pureun Bam" (Deep Blue Night) — while importing and distributing more than 160 foreign titles, among them "Dances with Wolves" and "Justice Bao," making significant contributions to the development of South Korea's film industry.
The National Council of Elders erected the monument on a family burial ground near the Seongsan Lee clan village in Chojeon-myeon, Seongju-gun — Lee's hometown — to honor the chairman's achievements.
"I extend my deepest respect and gratitude to Chairman Lee Woo-seok, who not only laid the foundation for South Korea's film industry but also devoted many years to nurturing local talent through scholarship donations and to the development of Seongju-gun," Jung said.
