Lee Bo-mi, 27, who won South Korea's first-ever MMA medal at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, has received a 10 million won ($7,480) prize.
Lee accepted the award from Korea MMA Federation Vice Chairman Hwang Il-young on Sunday at Jangchung Arena in Seoul, on the sidelines of the Goobne Road FC 079 event.
Lee claimed the bronze at this year's Asian Games, where MMA made its debut as an official sport. She trained intensively for about a year and overcame a collarbone fracture to become South Korea's first Asian Games medalist in the sport.
Hwang, appointed vice chairman of the Korea MMA Federation in October, traveled to Japan to watch Lee compete in person at the Asian Games. His company, Teolbone Aeksang Factory, is also an official Road FC sponsor.
"The national team — including Lee Bo-mi, Yoon Tae-young and Choi Eun-seok — trained at their own expense and gave everything they had to raise the profile of Korean MMA under very difficult conditions," Hwang said. "Going forward, I will work to provide active sponsorship and support so that athletes can train in better conditions and Korean MMA can continue to grow."
